2.  Anneke JANS2 was born about 1605 in Flekkeroy, Vest Agder, Norway.3,4,1  She immigrated on 21 Mar 1630 to New Amsterdam, NY.1 In a party of colonists sailing for America aboard the ship Eendracht from the Texel on March 21, 1630 were Anneke and her husband Roelof Janszen, their children and probably her mother and sister.  After an uneventful voyage they arrived at New Amsterdam, at the mouth of the Hudson, May 24, bound upriver to Rensselaerswyck, a newly established patroonship near the present city of Rensselaer.  She died in 1665 in Albany, Albany Co. NY.5,2  She was a landowner in New York State.6,1

======================================================================
After learning of her husbands (Bogardus) death by drowning of the coast of Wales in the wreck of the ship Princess on Sept 27, 1647, Anneke moved from her home near the fort in New Amsterdam to Fort Orange in order to rear her younger children and to "make a living".  A curious phrase, this, for one of whom so much has been written respecting her affluence as a landowner.  As one writer puts it, expressing the views of many, "The celebrated Anneke Jans amassed a large protion of Manhattan real estate."  This holding was in fact a 62-acre farm, a minute farm, a minute fraction of the island's 22,000 acres.  Together with the Domine's Hook property on Long Island at Hunter's Point, it had been leased out since 1636 and produced little income.  Moreover, except for her widow's rights, these lands belonged to her children.

"DE HALVE MAEN"
===================================================================== Jans, Yans, Annkek or Annefje, Dutch colonist in North America; d. Albany, N.Y., 1663.  She emigrated from the Netherlands in 1630 with her husband Roeloff Jansen who secured in 1636 a grant on lower Manahattan Island for 62 acres of land, to which Anneke obtained a patent right in 1654.  The possession of this property was subsequently the subject of numerous lawsuits.  In 1671 some of her heirs sold the land to Governor Francis Lovelace.  In 1673 it was confiscated by the British, who deeded it to Trinity Church in 1705.  Since 1749 this valuable property had been claimed by the descendants of Anneke Jans, chiefly on the legal grounds that the names of two heirs were omitted from the original deed of transfer, but the courts have always upheld the defendants.

Anneke had married twice. First to Roelof Jansen in Amsterdam Reformed Niew Kerk in April of 1623 and the second time in New Amsterdam to Domine Everadus Bogardus in March of 1607.
The records show that Marritje was married three times. Around 1632 she married Tyman Jansen, more than likely at Amsterdam in The Netherlands. He died before 1646, for in that year Marritje married for the second time to Dirck Corneliszen Van Wensveen on 28 August 1646 at the Reformed Dutch Church at New Amsterdam. Dirck died by July 1648 and the following year on 20 July 1649 Marritje married for the third and last time to Govert Loockermans.

Elsie had four children by Pieter. Three, Cornelis, Timotheus, and Margarita, were mentioned in her mother's will. Her second marriage to Jacob Leiser resulted in seven more children being added to her progeny: Susanna, Catharina, Jacob, Mary, Johannes, Hester, and Francina.

Marritje Jans and Dirck Corneliszen Van Wensveen

Sara Roelofs
Sara, the daughter of Anneke Jans and Roelof Jansen, was married three times at the Dutch Reformed Church at New Amsterdam.
Her first marriage on 29 June 1642 to Dr. Hans Kierstede gave ten children to the world of which seven survived to reach adulthood.
After the death of her first husband about 1667, she married for the second time on September 1, 1669 to Cornelius Van Borsum, the son of Egbert Van Borsum and his wife Annetje Hendricks. They came from Embden, Holland. From this marriage one child was born, a daughter, Anna. Cornelius died in September of 1682.
In her third marriage she exchanged vows with Elbert Elbertzen Stoothoff on 21 July 1683. Sara was now 56 years old. Elbert was a widower whose first wife's name was Altje Cornelius Cool.
Sara, who had been baptized 5 April 1627 at Amsterdam, had come over to the new world with her  parents in 1630. She spoke both English and Dutch and became greatly proficient in the Indian languages.
Her capabilities did not go  unnoticed and were often used by the leaders of the Dutch colony.   In 1664 she acted as an interpreter in negotiating a treaty made by Peter Stuyvesant with the Hudson River Indian tribes.   Sara's talent did not go unappreciated and on account of her excellant services over a number of years she was rewarded a patent of
land that was granted to her second husband, Cornelius Van Borsum, on October 14, 1673, ".  . of a lot on Manhattan Island, north of the windmill on the west side of the road that runs to
Klatchhook."
Sara died before the 21st of October 1693, as on that date both a will and a codicil were proved in her name. The codicil to her will was dated August 7, 1693, thus, we know she died between those two dates, in her 67th year.
There is no question that she lived a long, hard, and fruitful life. She was a true pioneer woman and obviously an intelligent person. She had just turned 15 at her first marriage and in the  years that followed she would bring ten children into the world.  She is an ancestor surely worthy of our memory.

She was married to Dr. Hans KIERSTED (son of Jacobus VON SCHIERSTEDTE and Elizabeth VON DORSTAEDT) on 29 Jun 1642 in New Amsterdam, NY.16,17,4,1,12  The Kierstede Brothers of Magdenburg.
Hans Kierstede and his brother, Jochem, were refugees from city of Magdenburg, Germany. This was the city that was sacked by Tilly in 1630.
What occurred there or was allowed to happen by General Tserclaes Von Tilly, who was by birth a Dutchman, was typical of the horror men can inflict on their brothers when the thin veneer of civilization is wiped away and evilness is loosed upon the land.  It is a wonder that anyone at all survived.
Within a period of 12 hours the city was reduced to rubble and smoking ashes.  No one was spared whether young or old including the women who were raped then murdered.  Even the children were slain by the sword and the entire number of people killed was not less than 30,000 with some chroniclers claiming the number was as high as 50,000 dead.
Somehow Hans and Jochem did escape and eight years later were able to find their way  to America. How they survived and where they were in the intervening years is unkown to this writer.  Seventeen years after their arrival, Jochem, on a trip back to Holland with Everardus Bogardus, on that same, now famous fateful ship, perished.  And thus it is that Jochem never married and left any issue, but his brother, Hans, a physician and surgeon employed by the Dutch West India Company, met and married Sara Roelofs.
Hans and Sara raised a family of ten children, six sons and four daughters.  It is known that Hans died prior to 17 July 1667 as on that day his name is mentioned in a deed that describes him as dead. His youngest child, Rachel, baptized 13 September 1665, must have been only a little over one year old when he passed away.
The name of Hans Kierstede first shows up in the Dutch records on May 1, 1638.  He left the service of the West India Company before 28 August 1648 because on that day a power of attorney is given to Willem Turck to collect money due him from the Company for his late services.
After he detached himself from the West India Company he remained in New Amsterdam working in a private capacity as a surgeon and physician.
Four of his sons lived to promulgate the Kierstede line: Hans, Roelof, Lucas and Jacobus. Three daughters matured, married, and raised their families.12  Dr. Hans KIERSTED was born in 1612 in Magdaburg, Germany.16,18  He immigrated in 1638 to New York State.16  He died before 17 Jul 1667 in New Amsterdam, NY.12  He was a Physician in New York State.16,19
